Everyone loves eating a ripe, juicy summer tomato, but successfully growing tomatoes? Well, it’s not for the faint of heart. Honestly, tomatoes are kiiinda high maintenance and require lots of time, energy, and careful tending, and knowing how to properly prune tomatoes is essential if you want healthy, productive plants.

If you’re a visual learner like me, the best way to acquire a new skill is to WATCH someone do it first. So today, I’m sharing a super straightforward video tutorial for one of my *most asked* questions… how the heck do I prune tomatoes?!

If you’re growing tomatoes this summer, and you’re already feeling a bit overwhelmed… don’t worry, I’ve got you!

This video tutorial will teach you:

  • The difference between determinate and indeterminate tomatoes

  • How to prune determinate vs. indeterminate tomatoes (hint: they should be pruned very differently!)

  • How to allow your indeterminate tomato to have multiple “leaders” to maximize fruit output

  • Recommendations for pruning tomato leaves to encourage air flow and minimize fungal issues

  • How to properly trellis determinate and indeterminate tomatoes

A note that this video tutorial is available for paid subscribers. My hope is that if you find this information useful, that you can invest in your food-growing endeavors and support my work as a paid subscriber. Either way, know that I’m rooting for you and I’m grateful you’re here!
